Hi!! ^_^

VW uses aluminum oil pans and oil pan drain inserts, which is why the threads wear...mostly due to overtorquing of the bolt. It happened to my '02 Jetta 1.8T about 3 years ago, which was somewhere around the 80,000 mile mark IIRC.

Of course, I had a pothole at about 130,000 take out the oil pan completely...

but I had the state pay me back the repair bill for the clumsiness of the road crew that caused the incident in the first place.

My '02, bought new, now has 218,000 miles...and no significant issues. Great cars IMHO.
I had a road plate take out my transmission pan.
The foreman of the crew was on site, so it was obvious that they had to cover it.

I'm glad it was only the tranny pan. If it had been the oil pan it would probably have meant a new engine. You're doing better than me in milage. Mine's a 2000 and only has 204,700.
I only put about 500 miles a week on it though.
I was putting 1,000 miles a week on it, approximately, until this past February when I started commuting by train for the first time in my life. Ah, so relaxing!! So now the car is with my hubby and gets maybe 500 miles a week, tops, probably closer to 200 miles a week.
I agree - the train is a much better way to commute.

I commuted into NY City from Long Island for many years. Lots of reading or relaxing time.

My drive is now from Long Island to South Norwalk CT.

I live on Podcasts and Audio Books now.
